2 Types Of Luck

Hi,

This is a topic or lets say a theory that I 100% believe if you’re aware of, you can be successful in whatever venture you want to pursue. I believe the world is run on two types of luck.

This topic was influenced by the anime Bluelock where one of the characters mentioned the mechanism of luck in the Football world.

BlueLock is a football anime based on creating the best striker in Japan. It’s theories and application to becoming the best striker can be applied in real life which is super cool..

The two type of luck mentioned in the anime is ;

Absolute Luck - This is when good things happen by chance, without you doing anything to make it happen. It's like finding money on the ground or even someone coming up to your house and offering you $100.

Manufactured Luck - This is when you work hard and prepare, so when opportunities come, it seems like you're lucky, but it's actually because you made it happen through your efforts.

Let’s use both of them in an example to build a visual image!

A football player shoots towards the goal and it deflects off the a team mate unexpectedly changing it’s direction and leading it straight into the net which is considered as a goal for them. The football player didn’t plan this, but it happened in their favour. You would call this absolute luck.

Now, consider a football player who practices shooting from different angles every day after training. During a game, this player gets the ball in a tough spot but manages to score because they've practiced so much. It might seem like luck to others, but in reality, the goal came from the player's hard work and preparation, that's manufactured luck.

I mean sure, both players scored and they can be considered lucky but what are the chances of scoring if we are basing our luck on absolute luck?

Thinking About Luck…

We usually say we're lucky when things go our way, especially when others don't see all the hard work we put in. This makes you think about how much we focus on the end result. In a world that loves winners, we often forget about the effort that goes into trying, whether it ends in success or not.

Though when things happen in our favour and it’s considered luck, wouldn’t you always want to be on the lucky side?

How do we increase our luck?

The answer is Manufactured Luck.

Now how can this be applied in real life and business?

I realised it's often the most successful people who are called lucky. But how are they lucky? They put themselves in situations that translate to having manufactured luck.

It’s the long hours Elon Musk spent on his businesses to achieve his success, or the relentless practices Cristiano Ronaldo put in to ensure he scores with every chance he gets. They all manufactured luck to be this successful.

Sure, absolute luck is amazing and it happens, but this is real life, not a fantasy. What are the chances it happens all the time to help create your success? You have to create your own luck, and your own luck is your manufactured luck!

This type of luck is a staple in many success stories, made through effort, networking, and putting yourself in places where opportunities can arise. It’s about creating a ground where opportunities can appear. A person who is constantly learning new skills, meeting new people, putting themselves out there is manufacturing their luck. They are increasing their odds of encountering opportunities not by chance but through action.

The Intersection

Though, with the topic ‘luck,’ it really suggests that we cannot control every aspect of our life, but there is a portion that we can influence through our actions. Understanding the two types of luck and what role they play, through effort, preparation, and resilience, can lead you to a more rewarding and fulfilling journey.

From my observations and looking at successful people in business and even in life, those who unconsciously and consciously understand the balance between the moment that absolute luck blesses them and consistently working towards creating their manufactured luck are the one of the reasons why they are thriving and happy with their lives.

The more you move, the more lucky you are. ( Move Smart though! )

Just don’t expect anything to happen to you if you’re lying around and doing nothing.

Invite your own luck and start being successful in whatever you want to do!
