When custom conversions do not fire, the natural assumption is that something went wrong with tracking setup. Maybe the pixel code is missing, events were not configured correctly, or the integration between site and ads manager has failed. In this case though, everything in the backend was set up properly. The events were tidy and the pixel was connected.

That is when I realized the problem might not be a platform issue, but a local one.

The Real Cause: Local Issues Interfering

Meta Pixel tracking can be disrupted by local browser conditions. These include:

  • Cookies: A build-up of cookies can interfere with how events load.

  • Cache: Stored cache data sometimes prevents real-time events from showing properly.

  • Extensions: Browser extensions, especially those related to privacy or ad-blocking, can disrupt event tracking in Ads Manager.

What looks like a broken pixel may simply be your own browser environment interfering with event display.

The Fix: Start Local Before Escalating

The moral of the story is simple. If your events are not showing properly in Ads Manager, do not jump straight into assuming your pixel is broken. Start by clearing cookies, clearing cache, and disabling extensions. Then refresh and test again.

If the issue still persists after that, move on to deeper troubleshooting such as verifying your event setup in Events Manager or using Meta’s Test Events tool.
